T.R.E. is a co-sponsored project of Capital Region Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) and New York State Education Department’s Division for Vocational Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID). Our Mission “to provide information, training and other resources to enhance learning opportunities for individuals with or without disabilities through technology.”

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

Regional, State and National Services

To Build Capacity to Help All Students Access Information

 

 

VESID funds the TRE Center to support and collaborate with customers, suppliers, and professional development networks to build schools’ capacity to provide all students with access to curriculum. The goals of this collaboration are to:

 

<      Develop Our Technical and Content Expertise to lead New York’s UDL initiative.

<      Disseminate UDL Information to All Educators and Help them Obtain UDL Resources.

<      Provide UDL Technical Assistance to NY Professional Development Networks.

<      Ensure RIATT@NASDSE Overview Training to SETRC personnel within two years of hire.

<      Support and Implement NYS Assistive Technology Guidelines and Alternate Media Law (Chapter 377 - see http://trecenter.org/publications.htm)

 

 

REGIONAL:

 

<      Assistive Technology Itinerant Service: Districts may purchase time of TRE Specialists who then provide a variety of services, including Individual Student Technology Consultations (S.T.C.’s), Professional Development, Classroom Consultations, and Assistive Device Loans.

 

<      AT:LASTS: Assistive Technology Library, Acquisition, Suppliers, Training, and Services: This model collaboration project strengthens relationships among Technology Product Suppliers and schools in seven BOCES. Data will demonstrate the value of the program to improve results of students with developmental disabilities through access to curriculum via timely access to appropriate tools. ()

 

<      Library of Universal Design for Learning Resources: Located at NERIC, it helps districts comply with Chapter 377 of NYS Education law which mandates that all districts and BOCES have a plan and for making all instructional materials accessible to all learners.

 

<      Open House: Monthly seminars to try the latest product solutions to challenges.

 

<      Vendor Preview Center: Over 30 leading vendors of Assistive Technology products partner with the TRE Center to provide a wealth of resources.

 

 

STATE and NATIONAL:

 

<      Advisory Council: A broadly based representative group that meets regularly to provide meaningful advice and direction to support the mission of the TRE Center.

 

<      http://www.ATEXPO2004.com The NYS Governor's Expo on Assistive Technology, Technology Opens Doors, will be held May 13, 2004 at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany, NY from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. This one-day Expo will provide a forum to showcase the Power and Potential of Assistive Technology for People with Disabilities, and the vital role it can play in promoting greater productivity, independence and full involvement in all aspects of life.

<      Regional Training: How to Implement Principles of Universal Design for Learning and the New York State Guidelines for Assistive Technology.

 

<      http://RIATT@NASDSE.com As part of New York’s State Plan, 16 educators have earned the RIATT@NASDSE Instructor rank. These certified Assistive Technology Specialists are trained to support all SETRC personnel who take RIATT’s Overview Course in Assistive Technology, as well as the over 200 professionals who have completed one or more of RIATT’s nine competency – based certificate programs. Certificate programs scheduled in New York for 2004 include:

o        Binghamton University: Basic Services Certificate – July 26-30

o        Binghamton University: Communication Specialist Certificate - August 2-6

o        Duchess BOCES: Basic Services Certificate - August 16-20

o        Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES: Basic Services Certificate – Sept 27-29; Oct 25-27
