The LATS Professional Development program certifies you have acquired the competencies necessary to provide appropriate Assistive Technology Services to students with disabilities: (NYS VESID Certification)

• Facilitate IEP teams to use an effective team decision making process to appropriately consider students for their assistive technology needs, resolve computer access issues and reduce potential for costly hearings and litigation.
• Locate and use available local, state and national resources to assist with facilitation.
• Implement selected assistive technology devices and software within the curriculum.
• Over time, apply learned skills to assess student needs and provide a range of assistive technology services in general and special education classrooms.

To demonstrate mastery of course competencies, you will have 10 months to conduct four equipment trials and evaluate their impact, one supervised assessment, 20 hours of online course work and a project that addresses personal and professional goals as well as the District's needs. CEU's are available for this training at a slight additional cost.

At a minimum, each person should have willingness to serve as an AT Resource Person, good interpersonal skills, certification in special education or a related field, a valid email account, comfort with either Windows or Mac operating system, creativity, patience, expertise with some aspect of technology - - and time.
