Assistive Technology Resources for Blind and Visually Impaired

T.R.E.A.T. Resource Guide

This T.R.E.A.T. Resource Guide has been prepared as an introductory look at a complex but exciting specialty within the field of assistive technology. Because the assistive technology field dynamically changes in response to the needs of students with disabilities. Your comments and contributions to the content of this guide are welcome. As new information is acquired and reviewed, updates to this Resource Guide will be made available at our website.

"In My Mind’s Eye"

"You are Unique.

You see differently.

I step between you and the school to modify, to adapt, to customize your day.

That teachable moment must be maximized to the fullest.

I challenge you to learn.

You challenge me to teach you in a style that enables you to reach your potential.

Ascend, then little one, up the stairway, yearning for the twinkling stars.

Forever seeking the ultimate reward:

a quality life abounding in success, freedom, and dignity."

(Marion Young, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, Spring Branch ISD. Reprinted from SEE/HEAR Newsletter, Spring 1998, Vol. 3, No.2. You can retrieve a copy from Texas School of the Blind and Visually Impaired website. See listing.)
